ABOUT ME
Annalys Ramirez is a Dominican-American multi-hyphenate artist proudly hailing from Brooklyn, New York. As a first-generation American deeply connected to her Dominican heritage, she carries with her the vibrant legacy of the remarkable women who preceded her. These women were exceptional storytellers, shaping Annalys into the person and artist she is today. She aspires to embody even a fraction of their greatness.
Her journey into storytelling began unexpectedly in the humble setting of a nativity play at her local church. Cast as a sheep, she was utterly enchanted by the experience, despite her brief two minutes on stage. Fueled by this newfound passion, she immersed herself in the world of theater, attending Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School to hone her talents and skills. Though initially timid, she summoned the courage to audition for the spring main stage production of In the Heights. To her astonishment, she landed the role of Vanessa! Stepping into this character was a leap beyond her comfort zone, but she embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. The experience was transformative, deepening her love for acting and solidifying her aspirations.
As a plus-size, queer, Afro-Latina individual, Annalys understands the struggle of finding roles that authentically represent who she is. With the unwavering support of her fellow artists and friends, she founded Moon Phase Theatricals, her own theater company, aiming to carve out a space where artists like her can thrive. The mission of Moon Phase Theatricals is to dismantle the narrow constraints of the industry and celebrate diversity in all its forms. Here, artists are valued for their essence, regardless of race, gender, neurodivergence, body shape, or disability. Moon Phase Theatricals is dedicated not just to adapting works to fit the world around us, but to originating stories where the human experience takes center stage.
